Diamonds & Dirt Barrel Horse Classic Relocates to Waco, Texas for 2017

The Diamonds & Dirt Barrel Horse Classic (DDBHC) one of the largest and most prestigious events in the barrel horse  industry, will be held at the historic ExtraCo Events Center in Waco, Texas, the week of March 6-12th, 2017. DDBHC has had five great years at the Brazos County Expo, but with the overwhelming growth and popularity a larger venue had to be contemplated. After considering various facilities, @DDBHC outlined specific selection criteria, including facility location and amenities and the obvious choice was the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas

“2017 Diamonds & Dirt Barrel Horse Classic will continue with the dates of March 6-12th. This will permit the @DDBHC to streamline the schedule to better accommodate our contestants, faithful vendors, loyal sponsors and the passionate following of spectators, while continuing to offer a vibrant shopping experience. Since 2012, DDBHC has hosted thousands of barrel racers from over 44 states and five countries while proudly supporting the non-profit, K9s4COPs, which provides canines to law enforcement agencies and schools.” said Founder, Kristi Schiller

“K9s4Cops is a critical organization that provides the essential service of partnering trained K9s with departments in need and ensuring that our local officers have the tools that are essential to keep our communities safe. K9s4Cops has already helped out law enforcement officials in House District 12 and moving the 2017 Diamonds and Dirt Barrel Horse Classic to Waco provides an opportunity for the citizens of central Texas to support this praiseworthy cause. It is great that the City of Waco will have the opportunity to host the 2017 Diamonds & Dirt Classic as Waco combines the necessary avenue capacity and the experience of already being home to multiple world class events.“ said Texas House Representative, Kyle Kacal– District 12

“We are confident this move will allow substantial growth of Diamonds & Dirt in 2017 and beyond. Finding a new home in an amazing venue like Waco puts this highly anticipated event within easy reach for participants, and we are expecting growth in entries. The first Futurity payment is due November 1st.” said Ross Wright, DDBHC Show Secretary

“Most industry contestants are familiar with this outstanding facility, considering this is also the home to such prestigious events as the The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association Finals, The Elite Extravaganza JB Quarter Horses Futurity and the D&D Classic the weekend preceding DDBHC The exciting lineup of the much anticipated $100,000 Slot Race considered the ‘Richest 15 seconds in Racing’ in addition, there will be added money to the Futurity, Derby, Amateurs, Youth and the 5D Open. said Shanna Brown, Schiller Ranch Managing Director

“We are thrilled to welcome a barrel racing industry anchor, the Diamonds & Dirt Horse Classic to the ExtraCo Events Center. With their format and the chance to have a weeklong event is a great edition to the EEC. We hope to develop a lasting partnership with DDBHC that is a lasting one in Waco, TX for many years. We are excited this event simultaneously supports K9s4COPs and our law enforcement community” said JD Ewing, Extraco Events Center, Vice President of Operations

Typically, each law enforcement K9 can cost in range of $15,000 to a specialized K9 that can value in excess of $25,000. These essential tools are often the first weapons to fall to department budget cuts. In June of 2011, Texas Philanthropist, Kristi Schiller founded K9s4COPs to fund the donation of trained K9s and on-going training of the officer to law enforcement agencies around the country.

K9s4COPs provides K9s to law enforcement agencies, school districts and college campuses. In five years, K9s4COPs has placed approximately 130 dogs in 34 states and Paris, France. K9s4COPs dogs have been responsible for over 2900 arrests and have removed more than $145 million in contraband, narcotics, explosives, weapons and cash. Not only do these highly skilled and trained K9s provide invaluable detection abilities, but their diligent serve allows their human partners to make it home safely to their families each night. Currently, K9s4COPs has three canines in the greater Waco area, including Waco ISD and recently placed dual narcotics K9 in surrounding Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
