Mary is only the third WPRA member in the NFR history to wear the No.1 back number.  Charmayne James in 1987 and Sherry Cervi in 1995 were the first two ladies to share that honor.  Mary and her 7 year old gelding, Sadiefamouslastwords (Mo) have had a banner year.  They head into the NFR with a lead of $74,590.  That‘s not a comfortable lead by any means with rounds paying $26,230 and the average $67,269.
Lindsey Sears regular season earnings record in 2008 was $184,567.  Mary set the new regular season earning record at $190,977 for the 2016 season.
Mary Burger had a knock out year winning Rodeo Houston winning $54,750. She won the Calgary Stampede and $122,000 – the maximum amount possible.  Of this amount $72,000 counted to the WPRA World Standings per WPRA rules.
Mary carries with her a lot of experience.  In 2006 she won her first world title after placing in nine of ten rounds at the Wrangler NFR.  She became the oldest WPRA World Champion at the age of 58.  She finished that year with $189,185 of which $78,558 was won at the NFR.  Mary rode Rare Fred who was named AQHA Barrel Racing Horse of the Year in 2006 and 2009.  This year Mo was runner up for AQHA horse of the year.
Mary also sets a new record of the oldest WPRA and PRCA NFR qualifier at the young age of 68 (68 years and 4 months). Prior to this June Holeman was the oldest at 62 years, 6 months.
Mary also claims multiple rodeo wins for 2016; Hugo, Oklahoma PRCA Rodeo, Flint Hills Rodeo/Strong City, Kansas, Frontier Days Rodeo/Abbyville, Kansas, Wichita Falls Texas PRCA Rodeo, San Patricio County PRCA Rodeo/Sinton, Texas and she won the cardholder race at the 2015 WPRA World Finals in Waco Texas, money counted to the 2016 standings.
Mary washes the windows in her barn every spring and fall.  She also daily blows the barn floor clean when she is home.  Guess Mary Burger is a perfectionist in many ways.
