Kasey Moran and LK Black Diamond dominated the 4th Annual Barrels for Tots & Troops Run in Kinder, LA. Their first run of a 14.837 placed third in the Open 1D on Friday. On Saturday, the pair ran a 14.777, winning 7th in the Open 1D, first in the Junior 1D sidepot, and fourth in the 1D BBR Extra series sidepot. Their last run on Sunday was the fastest of the weekend – a 14.482 – and helped secure the Open 1D average win. For the weekend, they took home over $1500 in cash and prizes.
Diamond, a 2012 mare by Brookstone Bay out of The Millennium Star who is by Strawfly Special, is a maternal sibling to Sherry Cervi’s horse Dash Ta Diamonds “Arson” who she ran at the NFR in 2016. She was bred and raised to be a winner by Aimee Kay. Purchased from Sarah Rose Waguespack late in her 5 year old year, Kasey had been following her and loved watching her run. When she learned Diamond was for sale, Kasey told her parents and, within three days the purchase was complete.
“Diamond has a very loud personality, she is such a funny horse to be around… she’ll throw stuff around if she’s tied in the barn, if you tie her in her stall or to a tree for too long she’ll lay down and throw a fit! She gets jealous when we mess with other horses and will hold a grudge if you don’t come love on her. She is probably one of the least broke horses I ride, and I don’t tune on her at home cause she acts like she’s never seen a barrel before in her life.”
Moran says that Diamond is a “special horse and she knows it and acts it! After a good run she pokes her chest out, throws her head around and trots all the way back to the trailer just to be the center of attention!”
